Thyme is a low growing (to 30cm) woody evergreen perennial herb used for cooking and for it’s medicinal properties. It prefers open sunny locations in well drained soils. It is a good companion plant which grows well with most plants helping to protect than from insects and enhancing their fragrance and favours. It is especially good plant with other Mediterranean plants, plants in the Brassica family (Cabbage, Kale, Broccoli etc), Solanaceae Family (Tomato, Eggplant, Pepino, Chili, Potato etc), Lamiaceae family (Sage, Mint etc) and Allium family (Onion, Garlic etc).
Thyme is medicinally used for its antiseptic and antifungal properties. It is used widely in many culinary dishes.
